CHRISTMAS WEEK at The Dickens Project!
We roll into our final week of this year's Dickens celebration with stories both familiar, and less so . . .
Sunday, December 22nd
- Noon - Other Works of Dickens: Selections from Mrs. Lirriper's Legacy
Freda Frostbite graces THE DICKENS PROJECT stage with
selections from "Mrs. Lirriper's Legacy". It was among several collaborative works
published in ALL THE YEAR ROUND, a Victorian weekly literary periodical founded
and owned by Charles Dickens. "Mrs. Lirriper's Legacy" appeared in
the Extra Christmas Number (1 December 1864[13]) and was a collaboration with
Charles Allston Collins, Rosa Mulholland, Henry Spicer, Amelia Edwards, &
Hesba Stretton.
Presented live in voice.
- 4pm Both Days - A Christmas Carol in Two Parts
So, you missed hearing the timeless words of Charles
Dickens' story of transformation and redemption during "By-the-Stave"
week? No worries! Caledonia Skytower shares her personal
holiday tradition of performing the entire text, unedited, in the days immediately
before Christmas. Presented in two
approximately 90 minute parts (because Cale's voice won't last for 3+ hours)
All sessions are presented Live, in Voice. All times are SLT.
http://slurl.com/secondlife/Cookie/64/36/32
Don't forget to check out the "Christmas Past" skybox section! The teleport is to the left as you enter Dickens Square, over by the "Christmas Past" Illustrations and the Muffin cart - look for the Red Teleport Disc on the cobblestones in front of the banner. Open now for your exploration, and maaayybe there'll even be a reading there. Stay tuned!

We've enjoyed some wonderful performances this week, thanks to all!
Still to come . . .
Thursday, December 19th
Friday, December 20th
Sunday, December 22nd
SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT:
It is will sincere apologies that we announce that the planned "Walk Through" Sections of this year's Dickens Project will not all be opening as planned. The sections were all begun, but RL circumstances and internet challenges (plus prims) have conspired against completing these areas to our standards, and realizing this goal has ceased to be realistic.
We are pleased to announce that we will be opening the "Christmas Past" area today (12-19) and it will be available for exploration through the balance of this year's Project. We hope to schedule an impromptu reading of Stave Two with guests invited to explore while the reading is in progress to experience the "Greater Vision" of The Dickens Project.
Look for the teleport station near the "Christmas Past" Illustration slide show.
Thank you all for your support, and a Happy Holidays!

THE DICKENS PROJECT IS BACK! ~ December 13th through 26th
It was just a year ago that we tried out something new in celebration of the the Dickens Bicentennial of his birth. We thought "there are celebrations all over the real world, why not in the virtual world as well?" That was how The Dickens Project iSL was born.
After two weeks, thousands of visitors and nearly thirty hours of live voice programming from the author's works, we decided it was too good an idea for just one year. So we are trying it again! Thanks to the generosity of Thinkerer Melville, this year's Dickens Project has found a home on Cookie, and will feature the next steps in the "big dream" of a totally immersive environment for the enjoyment of live readings from the vast Dickens canon of works.
http://slurl.com/secondlife/Cookie/64/36/32
In less than a week, the first presentation will mark the opening of this year's celebrations. To whet you appetite, here is the preliminary schedule. Check back often for updates as we countdown to opening day, as the schedule will be subject to change, even once the the Project starts. All times SLT.

THURSDAY, December 27th: Closing Day
Well, it has been an amazing two weeks! Our celebration of Dickens has been a delight, well received, and now more than just Cale looks forward to the possibility of the return of The Project next year, and the possibility that we will all get to "walk in the footsteps of Scrooge."
There are some additional gallery panels on the ground floor of the Book Shop in honor of "Alternate Versions" Day today. Everything from the Klingon "A Christmas Carol" to Rankin-Bass' "The Stingiest Man Alive."
There are no scheduled events for Closing Day at the moment, but that could change in a twinkling, so stay tuned. And don't forget to show your appreciation for The Project, if you wish, which is a benefit for The Community Virtual Library. The donation bin is near the gate ... he's wearing a toupe!
What happens once the Project closes?

- It all gets packed away and tied up with strong cording of hope.
- If you want to keep up on Project news, follow this blog or join the Stories Unlimited! subscriber group - the joiner kiosk is near the gate across from "toupe guy."
- If you have feedback or ideas about features of the next Dickens Project, illustrators to recommend for the gardens, recommendations for the expansion of the Scrooge Gallery, or any other ideas that might inspire -- put them in a notecard and send them to Caledonia Skytower with the Subject line "About TDP 2012"
- The next StoryFests Event will be the third annual StoryFest Celebration in March - date still pending.

WEDNESDAY, Dec 26th - Other Dickens Day!
Charles Dickens wrote more than A Christmas Carol (*GASP!!!*). In a literary career that spanned more than three decades, he penned 20 novels, nearly 30 short stories, 12 collaborative projects, and a handful of non-Fiction, Poetry, Plays, Articles, and Essays. If that seems incredible, play this fun video clip and have a chuckle ...
Before The Dickens Project *poofs* into the virtual mists, we would be remiss if we did not take a moment to celebrate some of those other works. We have some great selections prepared to share today. So spend your holiday recovery day with us, have a toddy and enjoy.
Welcome to Other Dickens Day!
@ 10am: Caledonia Skytower & Elegia Underwood with Oliver Twist & David Copperfield
@ Noon: Klannex Northmead with a selection from Little Dorrit
@ 2pm: Dubhna Rhiadra with a selection from the Ghost Stories of Charles Dickens
@ 4pm: Caledonia Skytower with a selection from Great Expectations
All times slt. All sessions live in voice.

SUNDAY & MONDAY, Dec 23rd & 24th: "A Christmas Carol" in Two Parts
Everyone has their holiday traditions. Mine used to be about baking cookies and how much of the contents of my decoration boxes I could get out and up in the house. Several years ago I was asked by then King Marik Zarco of the Bloodlines SL Clan of Blood Evolution to read A Christmas Carol out loud in their Kingdom. That became an annual tradition which, in many ways, fed the kernel of an idea that eventually lead to The Dickens Project.
Caledonia (me) will be reading the entire text, "soup to nuts" December 23rd and 24th at 3pm SLT live in voice. The sessions will be 90 to 120 minutes in length and divide the novella into two parts.
Come and hear the words one more time (or for the first time if you haven't already) live in voice, and explore The Dickens Project - celebrating the words and works of Charles Dickens.

THE DICKENS PROJECT HAS LANDED!
Defying all odds, the build is not securely down on terra level on Info Island, though it is not yet "Open." Thursday will be about some final texture finessing, fixtures and dressing, and some final scripting. Might be sneaking in to put a few final touches in over the weekend, but there'll be no "plywood" showing when the gates swing wide on Friday!
MAKING PLANS? Scroll down two posts to see the Working Schedule. It will be updated and re-posted for the weekend Thursday late, late, late!!!

I feel like that now ... "It's almost Dickens Time!" Have been listening to Klannex Northmead's daily 1pm readings from Little Dorrit at Written Word (most days but Sunday's & UK Bank Holidays http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Cookie/15/244/22) through out December at 1pm SLT) while working on promo texts, uploading images, looking for props on Marketplace, and eating lunch.
The Dickens Project Build is almost ready to move down to the terra level ... and Friday's Opening is almost upon us ... more in progress shots below. It's nearly time to put the roofs on and start moving!
LEFT: Ixmal Supermarine checks out the build in costume, all ready for next week's readings.
