Whew!  Who would have imagined that we'd actually have been on time and ahead of schedule!  BOTH DAYS!  Thanks to all of today's performers and thanks tot he great audience.  Over L$5800 in donation to War Child North America from our efforts during this great weekend!  Thanks one and all for the support and the fabulous time!

Tips from this year's BARD will benefit War Child North America

War Child strives to empower children and young people to flourish within their communities and overcome the challenges of living with, and recovering from, conflict. To achieve this, War Child works collaboratively with those communities to increase access to education, overcome the obstacles of poverty and create a protective environment for the rights of children and youth.  The ultimate goal of War Child is that someday we will live in a world where no child knows war. 

There is no obligation to tip at BARD.  It is offered freely to the SL Community.  All tips received will be forwarded to War Child through the West Of Ireland in SL, which collects and forwards donations to the charity monthly. Donations go directly to the charity, and none are used to pay overhead or other expenses. Ninety cents of every donated dollar received by War Child goes directly to programs.

CALL for Performers

Stories Unlimited! & Fruit Island Events are pleased to announce the second year of the BARD ON THE VIRTUAL BEACH Weekend Shakespeare Festival, and we would like to invite YOU to be a part of it . . .

WHEN: You may be a part of one day that suits your schedule, or part of both.  (See restrictions below)

              ~ Saturday, August 18^th at 3:00pm (up to 90 minutes)

              ~ Sunday, August 19^th at Noon (up to 90 minutes)

WHAT: Shakespeare scenes, monologues, sonnets performed in voice.

• Minimum of 5 minutes in length, maximum of 12 minutes. Participating performers will be required to submit a specified length of their presented pieces in advance of the Festival. 
• A single presentation may be solo, or include a scene with multiple actors.
• Performers may participate in more than one selection under these conditions: a limit of two selections per day, three in total (subject to program review).
• Selections will not be repeated from one day to the next, so that each session will be unique.
• Minor fluctuations in time may be negotiated directly with Caledonia – PLEASE be realistic!

TECHNICAL DETAILS: This is a festival, so keep it simple.  There will be a festival stage on Mango Beach and seating will be very casual – beach chairs, beach blankets, cushions etc.  PLEASE do not plan on sets. Our festival set is very versatile, with inner above and below exits and a functional balcony level.  A very few furniture pieces will be available to use during your performance if necessary.  Participating performers will be required to request their needs in advance of the Festival. 

HOW DO I GET INVOLVED?:

Send a notecard to Caledonia Skytower by the end of the virtual day on Tuesday, July 31^st.  Include your name, the piece or pieces you would like to present, approximate length of the performance slot you need, and whether this is a solo performance or a presentation by a group of performers.

Details and schedule drafts will be managed through the StoryFest Events Group (if you are bringing a scene you will need to designate one from your company to be your captain & join that group temporarily to assist in communication/logistics) and through the StoryFest Blog on the web -- http://storyfestsl2011.blogspot.com/

PLEASE NOTE: Emphasis in this event is on presenting the best quality of Shakespeare in a traditional outdoor festival setting.  Performers with experience in handling Shakespearean text are encouraged.  If this is the first time you will be doing Shakespeare in a performance environment, this may not be the event for you to be a part of, but you are most welcome to apply.  The Organizers reserve the right to require an audition of performers whose work they are unfamiliar with.

Yes!  We are going to do it again!  We are pleased to announce that we have confirmed a date for the Second BARD ON THE VIRTUAL BEACH!

We'll be back at Mango in the Fruit Island Estate:
Saturday, August 18th beginning at 3:00pm, and
Sunday, August 19th beginning at Noon.
